Nailed it!

Have you ever had a performance that you nailed?

Did you ever wonder how you could lock that in and repeat it again and again?

Have you ever been able to just focus while chaos is going on around you?

If you can answer “yes” to any of these you may have a skill that others would love to learn to develop.  The St. Louis Blues nailed it and won the Stanley Cup after 5 decades. That’s almost my entire life time.  The Raptors also nailed it and won the NBA Championship.  Theirs was only half the time they waited but they made history as it has never been won in Canada. Brooke Henderson made history by being the winningest Canadian with her 9th championship. The most a Canadian has ever won in the PGA or LPGA. Congratulations to all!

I was watching Kawhi Leonard performance during the NBA finals.  He remained calm, focused and showed incredible skill and mental performance.  Many said Kawhi reminded them of Michael Jordan.  Jordan was one of my favourite players to watch as he was an incredible athlete, had great sportsmanship and amazing mental performance when he is was on. When he made a slam dunk he was in “The Zone”.  I could see he was laser focused and in control. I was in awe at how easily he mastered that performance. Yes, he was a winner for most of his career but there were mistakes and loses that could have thrown him off his game. He was able to gain back control, zone in and achieve peak performance!

Have you been “In the Zone” before?

It’s where your mind and body are in peak condition and you go into autopilot producing outstanding results.  You are relaxed, confident and doing what you’ve trained your body and mind to do and it flows naturally, effortlessly.

There are times I’ve also observed when everything is falling apart.  The performance isn’t what they wanted to deliver.  The mind starts spiralling out of control. Frustration creeps in, then anger, self-doubt and the “why bother” attitude takes over.

Recovering from let downs, failures and falls in life, business or sports isn’t easy.   To be in the zone or not is a choice that is made—it’s a skill you can learn.

It’s something that high achievers and elite athletes have and can turn on when necessary.

Do you need a REALITY CHECK?

Lately, I’ve been going after certain goals and desires and realized I needed a reality check. I’m a goal achiever and when I set my mind to something I achieve it 99% of the time. There were certain goals and plans I had for the remaining part of this year that I hadn’t focused on or accomplished until now. I went to travel the path this month to obtain them and I hit roadblocks. Automatically I felt defeated, let down as they were pretty big goals. So I decided to take a step back and revisit what I wanted. I looked inside myself to determine why I believed certain things were necessary and why certain things seemed unattainable. I had some “ah-ha” moments and this had actually put me on a better path with greater connections and new opportunities.

How do I reach this BIG goal?
